GUWAHATI: The Kaziranga National Park (KNP) attracted around two lakh foreign and domestic tourists in 2022, official sources said here on Sunday.
The month of December, 2022 witnessed 25 per cent more footfall in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year, the sources said.
Around 28,000 tourists visited the KNP in October, 2022, and this figure increased to 40,000 in November. In December, more than 60,000 tourists availed jeep and elephant safaris in the KNP, the sources informed.
As a result of the increased footfall of tourists, the KNP authority earned revenue of about Rs 1.5 crore in December last.
The sources said the local entrepreneurs involved in the tourism sector are also benefiting from the rush of tourists. They said that rooms in most of the resorts, guest houses and home-stays in the areas adjoining the KNP have been booked by tourists till around the time of Magh Bihu, which will be celebrated in the second week of January.
It is pertinent to mention that over the years, the KNP has earned the distinction of consistently being the tourist destination in Assam that earns the highest revenue each year.
