GUWAHATI: In an attempt to make revenue administration more accessible and closer to the citizens, Kamtup (M) Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha has initiated a special initiative under which grievances, petitions and complaints regarding land and revenue-related matters shall be dealt with and addressed directly by the Deputy Commissioner in presence of circle officers and other officials concerned.
The Deputy Commissioner's Special Lok Adalat commenced officially from Friday at the Conference Hall of the DC's office here, where matters pertaining to Guwahati, Chandrapur and Sonapur were taken up. Two land and revenue-related complaints were disposed of on Friday, while another 32 will be resolved within seven days, officials said.
The Deputy Commissioner said that people lose trust and belief in the administrative machinery if too much time is taken in resolving any public-related issue. He expressed the hope that these Lok Adalats will help in fostering a closer relationship between the public and the administration.
Subsequently, the Special Lok Adalat shall be held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. The next Special Lok Adalat will be held on February 26.
It is planned to introduce virtual sessions as well in the coming days for citizens who stay out of the city or who are unable to attend the sessions physically.
