GUWAHATI: After a long wait, the new building (House) of the Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) is finally set to be inaugurated on July 30 by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in the presence of ALA Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Minister of AYUSH, Government of India.
The construction of the new building had started during the Congress regime but due to various reasons, the construction got delayed. The construction has finally been completed now. However, the construction of the new Assembly Secretariat is yet to be completed.
On the other hand, a tree plantation programme was conducted in the new ALA building premises on Tuesday in association with Pragati Education Pvt. Ltd, an institute which imparts skill development training.
Talking to media persons, ALA Speaker Biswajit Daimary said, “The tree plantation programme has been conducted on the occasion of the 12th foundation day of Pragati Education Pvt. Ltd. This institute provides skill development training. I had sent some youths for training at this institute. After completion of their training, they got jobs in various sectors. As this is the newly-constructed ALA building, we decided to do the tree plantation drive here.”
During the plantation drive, ALA Deputy Speaker Dr Numal Momin, ALA Secretary Dulal Pegu, officials and employees of the ALA Secretariat and representatives of Pragati Education Pvt. Ltd. were present.
