Guwahati: The Mahila Congress has lodged a complaint against Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma with the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the Assam State Commission for Women over his alleged ‘dignity-for-jobs’ remark. The party has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.

The move comes a day after Mahila Congress leaders from the Northeast held a joint press conference condemning the Chief Minister’s statement and vowing to continue their protest until he issues a public apology. A delegation led by Assam Mahila Congress president Mira Borthakur Goswami submitted the complaint letters to both commissions on Monday. Speaking to reporters afterward, Borthakur stated that the Chief Minister’s comment was unacceptable under any circumstances. She further said that the CM has insulted not only working women but every woman.
