Guwahati: Jayanta Mallabaruah, after assuming charge as the minister for the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs (DoHUA), convened an introductory meeting on Wednesday with senior officials and heads of various verticals under the department at Janata Bhawan. The meeting served as a platform to review the progress of key developmental projects currently underway across the state. Kavita Padmanabhan, Commissioner and Secretary DoHUA, presented a brief overview of the ongoing works under the department.

During the discussions, the minister highlighted the importance of timely execution and effective implementation of ongoing initiatives. He stressed that the department's efforts would align with the visionary leadership and directives of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Key focus areas included streamlining administrative processes, resolving bottlenecks, and establishing clear objectives to expedite urban development projects.

Reiterating the government's commitment to fostering growth and transformation in the urban sector, the minister urged all team members to work collaboratively to achieve impactful and sustainable outcomes for the state.

Later in the day, the minister held a separate meeting with officials from the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), and Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation. The discussions centred on reviewing the overall drainage systems and wetlands across these urban centres. The minister emphasized the need to address urban flooding on a war footing, calling for coordinated action to mitigate the challenges effectively.

The meetings concluded with a resolute call for teamwork and dedication to achieving the department's goals, ensuring that urban development initiatives align with the aspirations of the people of Assam, stated a press release.
