Mock drill in 100 schools conducted by District Disaster Management Authority in Kamrup (M)

GUWAHATI: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kamrup Metropolitan District conducted Great Assam School Shakeout- 2019 in 100 schools of the district on Saturday. This is an initiative of Assam State Disaster Management Authority to conduct earthquake and fire mock drill in hundred schools of every district of Assam on the same day.

DDMA Kamrup Metro district also conducted the mock drill in hundred schools on Friday, covering all the educational blocks of the district. As a part of the mock drill programme, an exhibition cum demo on earthquake and fire safety was conducted centrally in TC Government Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Guwahati by Fire & Emergency Service, SDRF and NDRF. In the exhibition, students and teachers were sensitized on the use of different equipments, dos and don’ts on disaster, basic safety techniques during disaster, etc. The students of the schools actively participated in the drill as well as demo and exhibition. The entire exercise was done to inculcate the habit of safety in the students so that the schools are prepared to tackle any disaster.

The other stakeholders involved in the entire exercise are Education Department, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, NDRF and Civil Defence. Fire & Emergency Services Divisional Officer, RC Bhakat and DDMA District Project Officer, Kaustav Talukdar also addressed the students on safety-related matters on disaster.
