NCB seized drugs worth Rs 1.6 crore in Meghalaya; two arrested in smuggling bid

Guwhati: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Guwahati Zonal Unit, has seized 1.95 kilograms of methamphetamine and apprehended two individuals near Jowai in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. The operation, conducted on July 31 based on specific intelligence inputs, led to the interception of two suspects, both residents of Lalpani in East Khasi Hills, while they were travelling in a public transport vehicle towards East Khasi Hills. Upon conducting a search, NCB officials recovered methamphetamine valued at approximately Rs 1.6 crore in the illegal drug market. Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment had originated from Manipur and had passed through Silchar in Assam. The accused were allegedly attempting to smuggle the drugs into Bangladesh via Meghalaya. This is NCB Guwahati’s first seizure in the state of Meghalaya and comes as part of the agency’s increased operational focus in the region. Citizens have been urged to support the fight against narcotics by reporting any drug-related information to the MANAS – National Narcotics Helpline at toll-free number 1933. NCB has assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
