GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for DoNER (Development of the North Eastern Region) Jitendra Singh has said that the Centre is not going to scrap Article 371 now in force in some States in the Northeast, and rather the Centre is going to apply the Northeast development model in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Union Minister was in Guwahati on Wednesday at a party workshop for the north-eastern zone as part of the one-nation one-constitution campaign. Talking to the media on the sidelines of the workshop here on Wednesday, Singh said: “A team from the DoNER Ministry will tour Jammu & Kashmir from tomorrow with a view to implement the Northeast development model in the newly-created Union Territory. In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi did plan the development of the Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir. In the past five years, a development model was put in place in the Northeast, leading to development of infrastructure and projects. Now we’re going to implement this model in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, BJP spokesperson Minakshi Lekhi, BJP’s Northeast zonal secretary Ajay Jamwal and State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Das were also present at the workshop.
