GUWAHATI: Nature's Orbit Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in collaboration with North Eastern Handicraft and Handloom Development Corporation Ltd. (NEHHDC) recently organized a zero-waste event 'Regenerative - Restoring planet' at the NEHHDC premises at Pamohi here to expedite discussions on climate crisis, increased carbon emissions, loss of forest cover and Global Warming, which are some of the critical issues arising from the destruction of the environment coupled with haphazard development, stated a press release.
NEHHDC Managing Director RK Singh said that the event aimed to educate and inspire the masses to live a sustainable and healthy life by working towards a clean, green, sustainable world through responsible consumption, production and development. The official logo of Regenerative, designed by artist Sarang Dutta, was released by Singh and Elsie Gabriel.
The three-day event started with an Ecological Restoration Cyclothon to Deepor Beel, wherein the founder of Young Environmentalists Programme Trust, Elsie Gabriel spoke to the cyclists on the need to act for the dying lake. Cycling mayor of Guwahati, Arshel Akhter, actor, singer and nature lover Arghadeep Barua and local activist Pramod Kalita also took active part in the discussions. The cyclists and the guests returned to the venue for some vegan refreshments.
Later, tiny tots from 'Sanskriti The Gurukul' showcased how they made handmade paper out of used paper, while a few other students performed a 'Nukkad Natak', creatively bringing forth the plight of modern-day farmers and the benefits of sustainable agriculture. Ruchi Rai, the school's HOD Science, gave a presentation on redefining learning to re-invent education and restoring agricultural land.
The prime event was a Panel Discussion on "Code RED for Humanity" graced by Forest Man of India Padmashree Jadav Payeng, ambassador of Global Quest and founder of Young Environmentalists Programme Trust Elsie Gabriel, participant of COP 26 and founder of Indigenous People's Climate Justice Forum Rituraj Phukan, permaculture specialist and founder of TIEEDI Forest, Darjeeling Utsow Pradhan.
The event was a moderated by Tapas Bora.
Each panelist gave their interpretations and perspectives on the seriousness of climate change issues. They unanimously agreed that only immediate and conscious human intervention can bail humanity out of the impending global crisis.
