GUWAHATI: GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) will lease out all 52 parking lots in Guwhati to parties for four months from December 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023.
According to a GMC official, the tendering process will be complete by November 28. According to him, the civic body could not lease out all the parking lots for various reasons. "However, now we are leasing out all the 52 parking lots under our disposal. The parties will collect parking fees in all the 52 parking areas of the city," he said.
Reacting to the overcharge of parking fees by the lessees, the source said, "We have strictly prohibited excess demand of parking fees beyond the prescribed rates. Any complaint of charging excess money shall lead to the institution of criminal proceedings under the law against the settled bidders and their agents or representatives. That will result in the cancellation of the lease without assigning any reasons thereof. The period of parking shall be from 8 am to 10 pm. The lessees shall not operate after this period."
The source further said, "Every parking place in Guwahati will have digital cameras. And the parking places under flyovers will have CCTV cameras fitted in them. The lessees must check vehicles on entry with under-vehicle search minors and metal detectors."
According to the source, the new rates of parking fees in the city are - in the first two hours Rs 5 for two-wheelers, Rs 10 for three/four-wheelers and Rs 20 for four-wheeler trucks. These rates will repeat after every subsequent hour after the first two hours."
