NF Railway registers over 55% increase in parcel loading

GUWAHATI: During the year 2021-22 up to January, 2022, Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway achieved revenue to the tune of Rs 38.55 crore from parcel loading, registering a revenue growth of more than 44% in comparison to previous year for the corresponding period, stated a press release.

During the period from April 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022, NF Railway transported more than 112.5 thousand tonnes of commodities through parcel trains and parcel vans, as against 72.37 thousand tonnes transported during the corresponding period of the last year; it is an increase of 55.51%.

Parcel transportation by rail is the cost-effective, quick and environment-friendly option for customers. In addition to time-tabled parcel special trains, NF Railway has been also running demand-based parcel vans successfully. Efforts of the Business Development Units (BDUs) at all the Divisions and at Zonal Headquarters level have provided easy access to entrepreneurs and traders to transport their goods quickly. Business Development Units of NF Railway are having frequent interactions with trade & industry players within their respective areas to find new traffic for movement by train.

NF Railway hopes that various initiatives and schemes being provided by Railways will help businessmen and aggregators in bigger way for transportation of their commodities through parcel trains/vans.

CONTRABAND SEIZED: Meanwhile, another press release informed that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway recovered ganja worth Rs 15.38 lakh during checking at different trains on February 5 and February 7. The RPF of NF Railway also recovered a total 383 live tortoises from trains at Katihar and Kamakhya railway stations on February 5.

In an incident on February 7, an RPF team conducted checking in train No. 20501 DN (Agartala-Anand Vihar Tejas Rajdhani Express) at Agartala railway station jointly with GRP of Agartala. During checking, the RPF team recovered 13 packets unclaimed ganja, weighing 62 kg and worth about Rs 6.2 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the OC of GRP, Agartala for necessary action.

Again on that day, an RPF train escort party, while escorting the train No. 20501 DN, recovered 15 packets ganja weighing 29.3 kg and worth about Rs 2.93 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the Excise Department, Dharmanagar, for disposal.

In another incident on February 5, an RPF train escort party while escorting the train No. 07679 DN (Agartala-Dharmanagar-Demu special), recovered five unclaimed bags containing 33 kg of ganja worth about Rs 3.3 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the OC of GRP, Agartala for further necessary action.

On that day, an RPF train escort party, while escorting the train No. 15626 UP (Agartala-Deoghar Express), recovered 29.5 kg unclaimed ganja worth about Rs 2.95 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the OC of GRP, Badarpur for further necessary action.

On February 5, an RPF team conducted a check in train No. 19305 (Dr Ambedkar Nagar-Kamakhya weekly express) and detected one unclaimed jute sack kept under the seat of a coach. On checking the jute sack, 148 live tortoises were found. Further, the recovered tortoises were handed over to Range Officer of Forest, Katihar (Bihar) for taking legal action. Again on that day, on arrival of train No. 19305 at Kamakhya railway station, an RPF team of Kamakhya conducted checking at the said train. During checking, they detected 10 unclaimed bags containing 235 live tortoises. Later, the recovered tortoises were handed over to Khanamukh Forest Beat Officer, Kamrup East Division, Guwahati Range for taking further necessary legal action.
