GUWAHATI: The newly inaugurated flyover, Nilachal Flyover, has turned into a breeding ground for late-night nuisances, raising concerns among the residents. In recent cases, after midnight, the flyover has been the scene of disruptive activities such as people stopping their cars to take selfies and photos and using it as a runway for car stunts.
Just the day of its inauguration, a man was found urinating on the flyover, creating problems for passersby. People are expressing concern and dissatisfaction over a section of people's behaviour. One of the passersby said, "The flyover is for the people, and why cannot people respect it and not litter, waste, or create nuisance on it? Some of the youngsters drive recklessly and then have accidents. Because of some people, the whole society gets the blame." In recent times, a video circulated on social media showing three individuals recklessly driving on a motorcycle along the Nilachal flyover. And this took place after midnight.
According to a traffic official, "We send out patrol vehicles to monitor any activity. Even those who left their cars parked on the flyover were given fines. We were able to provide our services until 12 a.m. due to a lack of manpower. After then, it becomes exhausting for us because we have to work the next morning."
