GUWAHATI: The North East Indigenous People's Forum (NEIPF) expressed shock and anguish over the recent incident in Manipur that has affected the normal lives of the people. The horrific video of the sexual assault of two women emanating from Manipur is condemnable, the forum said.

The forum said, "We are deeply disturbed by the viral video. We have asked the Central Government as well as the State Government, the National Commission for Women, and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to take cognizance of the offence and take all necessary measures to bring justice and punish the guilty by prosecuting them in a fast-track court."

Further, the forum states, "While we make fervent prayers and appeal to all the communities for utmost restraint, we urge the administrations to maintain strict vigil so that no further flare-up takes place between the communities. It is of the utmost importance for the administration to provide security and freedom of movement to the people of the region, as all are interdependent socially and economically."

The NEIPF has urged all the stakeholders in affected areas to rise up and fight for a peaceful existence and to maintain calm and stress while resolving age-old issues through negotiations."
