GUWAHATI: The Space Industry Association of India (SIA-India), in partnership with the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), will organise the Northeast India Space Workshop 2026 at FREMAA, Assam Water Centre, Guwahati, on August 26 and 27.

The workshop, themed “Leveraging Space Technology: Regional Transformation to Global Reach,” will bring together more than 200 stakeholders from government, defence, space, telecommunications, industry, startups, investment, academia and international organisations.

The event will examine the potential for Northeast India to move beyond being a user of space technology and emerge as a developer, testbed, commercial market and gateway for space-enabled solutions to Southeast Asia and the Global South.

The workshop, being held in the context of National Space Day, will build on the significance of Chandrayaan-3’s soft landing on the Moon on August 23, 2023, while focusing on wider participation in India’s growing space economy.

SIA-India said Indian SpaceTech startups had raised approximately US$871 million through 241 funding rounds involving 285 companies since 2021. In 2026 alone, startups have attracted about US$113 million in equity funding. IN-SPACe had issued 105 authorisations to private entities by July 2026.

The association said the Northeast’s strategic location, challenging terrain, disaster exposure and 5,484 km of international borders with five countries created significant opportunities for satellite communications, Earth observation, SAR, geospatial intelligence and other space-enabled applications.

NESAC has already undertaken space applications in agriculture, disaster management, natural resources, infrastructure and communications, while the North Eastern Spatial Data Repository provides a regional geospatial foundation.
