Police arrest thieves and seize stolen goods and narcotics in citywide crackdown

GUWAHATI: Basistha Police arrested three burglars and a receiver of stolen goods from the VIP area under the Azara Police Station today.

According to the police, three burglars—Keshab Das, alias Babu (33), Gopal Singh (41), and Ganesh Lama (27)—burgled a house in the Naamghar Path in Lokhara Road recently. The police recovered Rs 6,000 in cash, a gold chain, and two pairs of gold earrings. The trio sold the stolen goods to one Ramen Deka (26) in the Lata Kakhori area in Lokhara. The police recovered a gold locket and four mobile phones from Ramen Deka. In another case, the Basistha Police arrested a thief, Deep Sunar, alias Babu (20), from Nine Mile. Hailing from Seven Mile in Meghalaya, Deep Sunar has links with a gang of thieves.

Jalukbari Police, on the other hand, caught a snatcher named Pranab Das, alias Lanchand, hailing from Azara, from the Adabari point when he was fleeing after snatching a mobile phone from a person. In yet another incident, the Hatigaon Police arrested a peddler, Kabel Ali, and seized 432 gm of ganja from him at Mazar today. He hailed from Mayong.
