GUWAHATI: In a special operation, the East Guwahati police intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers AS01ES0766 and AS01NC3769, respectively, at Nalapara, Basistha, on Sunday night.
During the search operation, the police seized 88 soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 1.056 kg, which is worth approximately Rs 8 crore. In this connection, three people have been arrested. They have been identified as Abdul Rosid (40), Pakka Betbari, Barpeta town; Mujammil Haque Bhaluki Salmara, Barpeta road; Md. Zamal Ali (28); Goroimari Hahchara; Boko; Kamrup.
In this regard, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet: "Last night, @GuwahatiPol intercepted two vehicles at Nalapara, Basistha and seized 88 soap cases containing heroin weighing 1.056 kg. Also, three accused have been apprehended. Really appreciate the efforts by @assampolice. Keep it up, team."
