GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students' Union) appealed to the State Government to supply an adequate quantity of food grains, infant food, medicines, fodder, medicines for livestock etc., in the flood-affected areas in the state, besides carrying out rescue operations on a war footing.
A statement issued by AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "Floods, erosion and landslides have ravaged the people of the state. Many cultivated areas in the state, including Guwahati, have gone under flood waters that breached embankments and washed away bridges in many places. People are at stake following the release of the excess water from the Kopili and Kurichhu dams. It is the bounden duty of the government to undertake rescue operations and extend relief materials to the flood-affected people."
The two AASU leaders also appealed to their members to help the flood-affected people of the state at this hour of crisis.
