PRSI Celebrates National PR Day With The Theme of Unity

GUWAHATI: The Public Relations Society of India (PRSI), Guwahati Chapter observed the 33rd National PR Day 2019 on April 21 in the city which was well attended by members of PRSI Guwahati Chapter, PR and Corporate Communication professionals and practitioners and students of Mass Communication and journalism from various institutes. The theme for this year’s event was “One Nation, One Agenda, One Voice”.

At the outset, Chairperson Madhuchanda Adhikari welcomed the gathering and highlighted the relevance of the day, while briefing the house about the rich legacy of PRSI since its inception in the year 1958. The PR Day message from National President PRSI, Dr Ajit Pathak was read out by Executive Committee member Jumita Saikia. Dr Pathak in his message reiterated that Public Relations are the fifth estate of democracy creating harmony among all the pillars. ‘Political parties may have their own philosophies and agendas but the need of the country is to have consensus on basic national agenda on which all the political parties should have one voice and no political ambition or strategy should impact the national agenda’, he said.

According to a press release, distinguished author and well known journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap was the guest speaker of the occasion. In his keynote address, he deliberated articulately on the theme. ‘An election is not just about politics. It is about so many things- the hopes and aspirations of the people, the economics, the overall law and order situation, the socio-economic conditions and probably many other factors. People want better healthcare, better schools, safe drinking water, better housing, better support for agriculture, jobs, security and protection of rights’, said Kashyap in the backdrop of the ongoing general elections and the relevance of this year’s National PR Day theme. The open session that followed saw interesting and constructive exchange of thoughts and ideas.

The occasion was utilized to felicitate veteran member of the chapter, poet and recently awarded Sahitya Akademi winner Shri Sananta Tanty, who mesmerized the audience with rendition of his verses.

There was also a book release authored by past Chairman and Secretary B K Baruah on the occasion. The formal meeting ended with the vote of thanks by Chapter Vice Chairperson Ruma Chakraborty.
