GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway rescued four minors from different stations in different drives and checks conducted on January 27 over the NF Railway network. The rescued minors were later handed over to respective Childline/parents for their safe custody and further course of action.
RPF of Kamakhya along with the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) team of Guwahati conducted a routine check at the Kamakhya Railway Station and rescued a runaway minor girl. Later, the rescued minor was handed over to Railway Childline, Guwahati.
In another incident, RPF of Lumding conducted a routine check at the Lumding Railway Station and rescued another runaway minor girl and two runaway minor boys. After identification, the children's respective parents were informed by the RPF. Later, the rescued minors were handed over to their respective parents after proper verification. During the period from April to December, 2022, the RPF of NF Railway rescued 686 minor children and 39 women and arrested 10 human traffickers. The rescued children and women were handed over to respective Childline/NGOs, parents and Government Railway Police. 'Meri Saheli' has been formed over the NF Railway network and is functioning round the clock to make women/child passengers aware about the safety/security and use of Helpline No. 139 in case of any exigency, informed a press release.
