Rapido, Commuters Protest Suspension

GUWAHATI: The office-bearers and riders of Rapido Bike Taxi Service registered their protest on Sunday against the DTO, Kamrup (M) suspending the service.

Officials from the DTO, Kamrup (M) on Saturday sealed the Rapido office located on RG Baruah Road in Guwahati saying that the bike taxi service was being run in Guwahati without due permission. A large number of people connected with the Rapido Bike Taxi Service some way or the other gathered at Chandmari here on Sunday said raised their protests against the suspension of the service. A number of commuters of Rapido service also joined the protestors on Sunday. The commuters are of the view that the service being rendered by Rapido Bike Service is very effective as it doesn’t create any traffic snarl since bikes can make their way through lanes and by-lanes when there are big traffic congestions in the main thoroughfares of Guwahati.

Meanwhile, people from Rapido claimed that they had submitted all documents demanded by the DTO, Kamrup (M). They criticized the action taken against them. A number of riders who make their both ends meet with the this bike taxi service said that if the government kept on changing its rules frequently how the unemployed like them will earn their livelihood in an honest way.
