GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has appealed to the social media activists to work with sincerity and see that peace and harmony is maintained. He has said that the misuse of social media, including posting of inflammatory messages, has led to violence at many places.

The social media workers of the State BJP met at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalikshetra here on Monday. Among others, the meeting was attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Sonowal said, “There has been misuse of social media, leading to violence at many places. Inflammatory statements posted in the social media have led to such violence. I’ve appealed to the social media activists to work sincerely and see that harmony and peace is maintained in the State. I appeal to all social media activists to see that positives vibes emanate from their posts for the greater interest of the State.”

Speaking on the occasion, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, “As many as 1,300 social media workers of the party from the 126 LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) of the State took part in today’s conference. We’ve extended suggestions to them as to how they should work in the social media. They’ll have to make the people of the State aware of what the State government has done in the past four years for the interest of the Jaati, Maati and Bheti in the State, besides making principles and policies of the party crystal clear.”

Dass said that in March 2020 an all-India social media activists’ conference of the party will be held in Guwahati. Around 5,000 social media workers are set to take part at that conference.

During the meeting, NEDA convener Himanta Biswa Sarma was giving tips to the social media activists of the party as to how they should work in their respective constituencies.
