GUWAHATI: State PHE (Public Health Engineering) Minister Rihon Daimary has ordered an inquiry into the alleged shoddy work in installing a tube well in a flood relief camp in Barpeta district.

The allegation is that only the pipe of the tube well goes down only half the length of a pipe, thereby giving up muddy water only.

According to sources, the tube well was ordered to be installed by the Barpeta district administration under the monitoring of the district PHE officials. The minister said that the quality monitoring cell of the department has been asked to conduct an inquiry to ascertain where it has gone wrong. “If negligence of any sort on the part of any PHE official is detected during floods in the State action will be taken against him/her,” the minister said, and added: “If complaint of negligence is received from any quarter action will be taken. We’ve adequate number of water packets, chlorine tablets and bleaching power with us. Before the flood we did ask the district PHE offices to distribute them during floods.”
