A routine stop-and-search operation by Basistha Police at Jorabat on the outskirts of Guwahati led to the seizure of nearly Rs 4 lakh in cash from a two-wheeler, as authorities stepped up enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the Assam Assembly elections.
Police personnel stopped the vehicle during the checking drive and, on conducting a detailed inspection of the storage compartment, recovered the cash. It was seized on the spot and subsequently handed over to the flying squad for further verification.

Officials confirmed that an inquiry has been initiated to determine the source of the money and its intended use — standard procedure under election-period cash seizure protocols aimed at preventing the flow of unaccounted money during polls.
Authorities said surveillance has been intensified across key entry and transit points in the region following the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, with polling now just days away.
