Run For Unity, Independence Day Celebrations In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Observing the second day celebration for Independence Day in the city, the ‘run for unity’ programme was carried out on Wednesday at 6 am. The parade which was flagged off by Kamrup (M) DC Biswajeet Pegu and included students, officers and various people from all walks of life, who ran from Dighalipukhuri to Nehru Stadium here in the city.

Various placards were also on display with signs that read ‘Save a tree, it does not charge a fee’, ‘Trees are green gold’, ‘Say no to drugs’, etc to raise awareness against social evils. A cleanliness and plantation drive was observed on Tuesday with an aim to steer the society towards a brighter tomorrow.

For the grand occasion on Thursday, various programmes such as cultural performances, march-past, parade, etc are scheduled at Veterinary College field, Khanapara. Each department is in earnest to make the Independence Day celebrations in the city an impressive and colourful affair.
