GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) has urged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to fulfil his promises regarding solving the problems of government employees.
SAKP president Dwipen Sarma said that because of government employees’ timely services, the Chief Minister’s promises for the all-round development of the State through various government schemes, welfare reforms, and administrative reforms were fulfilled. But the promises made by the Chief Minister to government employees were not fulfilled.
Further, Sarma said, “The vacant posts of various departments are not filled up, which should have been filled up through promotion. The Chief Minister promised various free health schemes for government employees. On August 25, 2022, a meeting was held with the Chief Minister where he announced a new health scheme – ‘Mukhya Mantri Karmachari Arigya Yojana’. But this scheme never became a reality. On May 10, the Chief Minister again announced that the free health scheme would come into effect on August 15, 2023. We hope this scheme will be executed and work accordingly for the employees.”
Further said, a steering committee meeting of SAKP was held on May 21, where the committee opposed the Assam Mobility of Employees of the State Government and other establishments (for optimum utilization of available manpower for efficiency) ordinance of 2023.
Sarma said, “If this ordinance is implemented, then there will be no transparency in the terms of transfers of the newly-appointed officers and employees. So, we are opposing the ordinance and requesting the government rethink it.”
Sarma said an extensive executive meeting will be held on June 4 at Mangaldai, where a decision will be taken to scrap the NPS (National Pension System) and restore the OPS (Old Pension Scheme). Also, resolutions will be taken about various issues affecting teachers and employees of the State.
