Section 144 CrPC imposed in Central Police District of Guwahati

Guwahati: In order to prevent disruption in the normal functioning of offices, movement of public and flow of traffic ahead of the final NRC publication on August 31, section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed in the parts of Central Police District, Guwahati from August 28, 2019.

As per the prohibitory order, office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Police District, Ripul Das prohibit an assembly of more than 5 persons, agitation, demonstration, procession, shouting slogans and speech which are anti-national or have any communal inciting tone in the entire Central Police District of Guwahati.

The order copy further mentioned that any person aggrieved by the order can file written objection to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ripul Das.

In a prohibitory order, Ripul Das also stated that some groups of persons or organizations/associations are planning to carry out agitation/ demonstration/shouting of slogans in parts of Central Police District which may cause breach of peace and public order and may cause disturbance or interruption of peaceful movement of public, traffic and also normal functioning of offices in the Central Police District.

Therefore, in order to take preventive measures to ensure the peaceful movement of the public, smooth flow of traffic and normal functioning of offices, section 144 of the CrPC was imposed in the Central Police District.

Earlier, section 144 of the CrPC was imposed in the parts of East Police District, Guwahati from August 26, 2019 by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Police District, Ranjan Bhuyan.
