Senior Citizen Murdered At Dispur Law College Road in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The murder of a senior citizen on Dispur Law College Road here on Tuesday night created sensation in the city where criminals seem to have got a haven. Paresh Chandra Baruah (72), a retired engineer who was two-time member-secretary of the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA), was found with a pool of blood in his residence (House No. 20). The incident, according to the police, occurred between 8 pm and 9 pm on Tuesday when Baruah’s wife, Dr. (child specialist) Garima Saikia Baruah, was away on her duty.

According to the local people, Paresh Chandra Baruah was alone in the house when the incident occurred after he had returned from marketing where he met a number of people of the locality at Supermarket.

According to the police, the murder was discovered around 10.30 pm when his wife came back home from duty. She found the body of her husband, wrapped in bed sheet, lying in a room on the ground floor. A few bags containing vegetables which he had brought from the market were lying beside him, and the almirahs in the room were open. She raised a hue and cry, leading the nearby people rushed to the house. Police personnel rushed to the spot around 11 pm and started investigation. A case (69/2020 u/s 456/302 of IPC) has been registered in this connection. The police on Wednesday deployed sniffer dogs and took fingerprints etc. No clue has been found as yet. Along with other top-level police officers, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanata also rushed to the spot. The post-mortem of the body has already been conducted. Besides his wife, Paresh Chandra Baruah is survived by two sons – one in the US and the other in Mumbai.
