GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia demanded Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma order a CBI inquiry into the incident of SI Junmoni Rabha under the supervision of a judicial magistrate and an inquiry by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the allegation of illegal transactions of money.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Saikia said, "We are saddened by the death of SI Junmoni Rabha in an accident at Jakhalabonda on May 16, 2023. However, after her premature deaths, several questions have cropped up. Questions do arise about whether Junmoni Rabha died in an accident, committed suicide, or fell victim to a pre-planned murder. A section says that Junmoni Rabha was killed in a preplanned accident."

Saikia said, "The statements made by Junmoni Rabha's mother raised many questions. The statement made by a person who claims to be an eyewitness to the incident has made the incident mysterious. To unearth the truth, it is imperative to hand over the investigation into the accident to the CBI under the supervision of a judicial magistrate and the inquiry into the alleged illegal transaction of money to the ED."

Meanwhile, APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Bhupen Borah has also demanded the Chief Minister order a judicial investigation into the mysterious accident of SI Junmoni Rabha.

In a statement, Borah said that public statements from various quarters alleged the involvement of some BJP leaders and police officials in the death of SI Junmoni Rabha. He said that the Congress is not satisfied with the CID investigation order by the Chief Minister into the incident. "We want the people of Assam and the next of kin of Junmoni Rabha to have the right to know the truth. That is why we want an inquiry by the judge into the incident," he said.
