GUWAHATI: Two significant books, 'Gita Bhavartha' and 'Namghosha' authored by Hemanta Bijoy Mahanta, former Commissioner of Income Tax, were released at the function held in NEDFi Auditorium, Guwahati, on Sunday by the 'Svyadhaya Foundation', Guwahati, Assam. The secretary of the foundation, Mitali Goswami Trochin, detailed out the aim and objectives of the foundation, which are preservation, protection, and development of our heritage.
Hemanta Bijoy Mahanta's books explore the philosophical explication of the Shrimad Bhagawad Gita and Shri Shri Madhavdeva's Namghosha. These books will contribute immensely to the spiritual development of Assamese society. He is an ardent follower of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva and Madhavadeva. He is a devotee of Khatara Xatra of Mangaldai.
Hiro Prasad Mahanta, Xatradhikar, Baghor Gayan Xatra, Kaliabor, and renowned gurus of Xatriya Sanskriti He delivered the inaugural speech for the occasion. He emphasised the need for such well-researched and updated books on the spiritual development of Assamese society.
The book Naamghosha was launched by Padmashree Dr. Surya Kanta Hazarika, the President of Asom Xahitya Xabha. This book is a detailed narrative of the 1000 verses written by Madhavadeva in his epoch-making creation, 'The Namghosha'. Dr. Hazarika is well known for his extensive research and publications on the teachings of the Neo-Vaishnavite movement in Assam. His deliberations on the original scriptures of the Puthi and their preservation in the Museum of London as well as in Assam were very informative. The book launch also marked the launch of the 'Swadhyay Foundation', an institution that provides spiritual discussions, analysis, devotional services, and various books to the people.
Attending the event as a Guest of Honour, Dr. Pradip Jyoti Mahanta, distinguished academic and Professor at Royal Global University spoke on the concept of bhakti, its exposition preeminently established in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Movement in India, and its ending impact on the Indian mind.
Referring also to the Namghosha of Madhavadeva, the great apostle of Bhakti and principal disciple of Srimanta Sankaradeva, Dr. Mahanta said that the Namghosha, being the 'piece de résistance' of Madhavadeva and composed with inspiration from his guru, is a standalone hallmark in the entire range of Bhakti compositions of not only Assam but Bharata varsha at large.
Mayur Bora is a prominent thinker and motivational speaker who provided valuable input into the role of Namghosa in the daily lives of the people of Assam.
There are many verses of the Gita that have been translated exactly by Madhavadeva. These two books are an attempt to present the teachings of Namghosa in a comprehensive manner. A new approach to the explanation of the verses of Namghosa is a necessity against the influence of Western culture. The author has previously published articles on Namghosa and Kirtan in Hindi and English for the promotion and dissemination of the spiritual teachings in Assam. Mahanta also served as the secretary of the Asom Xatra Mahasabha in Delhi for many years, stated a press release.
