SPICMACAY collaborates with Azadi Ka Amrut in Guwahati

The SPICMACAY Guwahati chapter has organized two-day long festivals which will have Indian classical music, dance, and folk forms will be showcased.

GUWAHATI: Shruti Amrut is collaboration between the SPICMACAY Guwahati chapter and Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav (an initiative of the Ministry of Culture). The SPICMACAY Guwahati chapter has organized two-day long festivals on February 17 and February 18 in Guwahati, which will have Indian classical music, dance, and folk forms will be showcased. During the two-day festival, Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia (flute), Ustad Shahid Parvez (sitar), Warsi Brother (qawali), and Singhi Chham Dance (Sikkim) performed, stated a press release.

The SPICMACAY Guwahati Chapter was formed in 1989. Fr. Mc George is the chairperson of the chapter. Chetan Sharma, National Executive Member of SPICMACAY, said, "We regularly organize programmes in institutions across the state and northeast region. The core team is in Guwahati and has volunteer members across Northeast India and Sikkim. In 2016, we organized an international convention at IIT Guwahati. We have hosted programmes on Indian classical, dance, and folk forms at IIT Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Duliajan, Assam University Silchar, Assam Down University, Royal Global School, Assam Valley School, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Sanskriti Gurukul, Don Bosco University, Don Bosco Institute, Kharguli, Don Bosco School, Barpeta, and Railway School, Maligaon. National Award winning artistes from across India have performed during these circuits."

The Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth (SPIC MACAY) is a non-profit youth organisation that organizes programmes and workshops of Indian classical music, folk music and dance, yoga, meditation, crafts, and other aspects of Indian culture in order to promote the tangible and intangible aspects of Indian and global heritage.
