GUWAHATI: The All Assam Causal Bill Clerk Meter and Reader Workers’ Association staged a demonstration in front of Bijuli Bhawan here on Wednesday in support of their various demands, including regularization of their jobs.

According to the Association, they have been raising the demand for the regularization of causal workers in APDCL, APGCL and AEGCL. “However, on December 7, 2018 and January 10, 2019 through two office letters as many as 1,900 workers were declared casual workers in a list. On April 28, 2019 the department conducted a written examination for the regularization of the 1,900 casual workers. However, even after four months the results of the written test have not been declared,” the association said, and added that the number of reserved posts for the casual workers has also not been decided as yet. They demanded immediate regularization of their posts. The association also demanded that 130 non-metric casual workers who could not appear in the written examination because of not having the requisite qualification should also be regularized in fourth grade posts. The association leaders submitted a memorandum to the authority of the department.
