GUWAHATI: Assam's Director of Secondary Education, Mamata Hojai, has asked a postgraduate (PGT) subject teacher named Samsul Hoque Pradhani to explain within seven days as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for making certain remarks in a magazine article which have created division between graduate teachers and postgraduate teachers.
Pradahani is serving as a subject teacher at the Roumari Higher Secondary School of Chapor in Bilasipara, under the Dhubri district.
The Director of Secondary Education mentioned in the relevant letter that she has received a complaint from the general secretary of the Assam Madhyamik Sikshak Aru Karmachari Santha regarding an article written by Pradhani which was published in the 'Sikshabarta' magazine under the caption 'Serving in +2 stage of upgraded Provincialized HS School: The pain and pleasure'. Mentioning that the article contained "unfair and unpleasant remarks" about the graduate teachers of secondary schools in Assam, the letter stated that "it is also seen that you have blamed the graduate teachers of upgraded higher secondary schools of conspiring to dishonour the subject teachers and have tried to bring bifurcation between graduate teachers and postgraduate teachers using some unparliamentary words in your writing".
The letter concluded by stating: "This is a bad practice of an educated teacher serving under the Directorate of Secondary Education. Hence, you are directed to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against you under Rules and procedures in force".
Meanwhile, the Assam Madhyamik Sikshak Aru Karmachari Santha has welcomed the step taken by the Director of Secondary Education.
