‘The Iron Man of NATU LA’ Lt Gen Sagat Singh’s Bust Unveiled

GUWAHATI: The Black Cat Division conducted the birth centenary celebrations of Lieutenant General Sagat Singh, Padma Bhushan, PVSM at Natu La on Sunday with full military grandeur. General Officer Commanding, Black Cat Division, unveiled a bust of Lieutenant General Sagat Singh, at Baba Harbhajan Singh Shrine near Sherathang and laid a wreath in honour of the Late hero to whom we attribute the Indian Army’s presence at Natu La today, stated a PIB (Defence wing) release.

During the unprovoked belligerence by the Chinese at Natu La and Cho La in August and September 1967 respectively, Lieutenant General Sagat Singh (July 14, 1919 - September 26, 2001) displayed leadership of the highest order and gave a befiting reply to the Chinese. Due to his resolute outlook, the Indian Army stood firm at these two passes and demonstrated that such hostile acts by the Chinese would not go unchallenged.

The Tri-Colour continues to flutter with pride today at Natu La because of the grit, determination and farsightedness of the officer and our Nation shall always remain grateful to him. Indeed, he shall always be remembered as ‘The Iron Man of Natu La’, added the release.
