GUWAHATI: The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has decided to fight alone in the forthcoming BTC polls scheduled to be held on April 4. The polls will take place in 40 constituencies and the party is trying to expand its voter base in the region. The statement was made by Minister Bhabesh Kalita while addressing the media at the state BJP headquarters in Guwahati. He said, “We have decided to contest BTC polls on our own and not have a pre-poll alliance with BPF. However, the alliance with the BPF will continue in the state. In the 2021 Assembly elections, the BJP will form an alliance with the BPF”. Speaking further, the leather added, “We are willing to know our voter base in BTC that is why we will contest the polls alone. We hope that the BJP will form the government alone and will get more than 20 seats in the elections. Though there is no pre-poll alliance, there is a possibility of a post-poll alliance”. The party has appointed around 40 observers for all BTC constituencies who will analyze the party stand in the region. Around 400 leaders have submitted their applications for party tickets. The observers will submit a report on March 16 which will determine the overall party stand and suitable candidates to contest the polls in BTC. The candidates will be chosen based on the report and the final list will be announced on March 16.

Bhabesh Kalita asserted that the BJP will fight the elections on the grounds of the BTR agreement and peace and development in the region.
