Guwahati: The week long Master Trainers' Training Programme on Elderly Care, Safety and Security of Women and Disaster Management and First Aids organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS), Pandu College, in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam concluded on 21st March, 2025 with a positive note of more dedicated work in the field. Sri Sumit Sattawan,IAS, District Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Programme of the Training Programme, where Sri Kausar Jamil Hilali, IAS, and Sri Prodip Timung, ACS, the Special Secretary and Director respectively of the Sports and Youth Welfare, Govt. of Assam and Sri Prasanna Borthakur, General Secretary, Senior Citizens’ Forum were the Guests of Honour. Dr. Chandana Singha Roy, Vice-Principal, Pandu College represented the college. Dignitaries on the Dais graced the occasion marking the successful completion of a pioneering initiative by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam.
The other dignitaries present at the occasion were Smt. Antara Gogoi, ACS, Deputy Director, Dr. Neel Harit Kausik, ACS, Deputy Director, Sri Maharshi Kashyap, ACS, Deputy Secretary, Sri Devid Kumar Bora, ACS, Deputy Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare, Govt. of Assam.
It can be mentioned here that this week-long Master Trainers’ Training Programme, a pilot project of the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Govt. of Assam, conducted by the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Pandu College covered the colleges having NSS units under the jurisdiction of Kamrup (Metropolitan) District.
The Inaugural Session of the MTTP was held on 13th March 2025 at Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia Auditorium, Pandu, Guwahati, where Smt. Nandita Garlosa, Hon’ble Minister, Sports and Youth Welfare, Govt. of Assam was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present on the dais were Sri Kausar Jamil Hilali, Sri Prodip Timung, Dr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Hon'ble Chancellor, Nagaland University; Dr. Rakhee Kalita Moral, Professor, Cotton University (Keynote Speaker); and Dr. Sanchay Jyoti Bora, Principal, Pandu College and the President of the MTTP.
A total of 117 NSS Volunteers and 19 Programme Officers from 19 colleges had participated in the Master Trainers’ Training Programme, of whom 53 were male and 64 female volunteers and 9 Male and 10 female Programme Officers. A total of 22 technical sessions were conducted, apart from the inaugural and valedictory sessions. There were four Technical Sessions daily of one and half hours duration. During these sessions, NSS volunteers acquired knowledge in Public Speaking and Group Discussion, Community Singing, Yoga and Meditation, Self-Defence Techniques, Disaster Management and First Aid, Elderly Care and Gender Sensitivity, Legal Awareness, and various aspects Safety and Security of Women.
Several eminent personalities graced the Master Trainers’ Training Programme as resource persons and conducted the technical sessions. Among them were Sri Dipak Kumar, Former Regional Director, NSS, North East Region; Dr. Satyabrata Barua, Programme Officer, NSS, B. Borooah College, Dr. Nurul Islam, Programme Officer, NSS, Karmashree Hiteswar College; Dr. Maitreyee Sarma; Dr. Angana Barua; Dr. Navaneeta Baruah; Dr. Dipanjali Haloi; Dr. Gargi Dutta Paul, Principal, Dispur Law College; Yoga Experts Sri Dibya Jyoti Deka and Smt. Arundhuti Talukdar; Civil Defence Officials Ms. Noorjahan Begum and Sri Nayan Jyoti Changmai; Mr. N.C Rao, Chief Instructor, NFRSA Self Defence & Martial Arts Academy, Maligaon and Dr. Shantanu Roychowdhury, Programme Officer, NSS, Pandu College & Coordinator of the Training Programme.
The week-long Master Trainers’ Training Programme proved to be an immensely successful and enriching experience for all participants. The sessions not only enhanced skills but also empowered youth with knowledge and awareness on crucial social issues.
