GUWAHATI: The SAKP (Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad) decided that it would resort to a statewide agitation from the second week of September in support of their various demands.
The steering committee of the Parishad met in Guwahati today and took this decision. The steering committee of the Parishad expressed concern over the lax attitude of the Chief Minister towards solving the problems of the State Government employees in the past two years.
SAKP president Dwipen Sarma said, "We have appealed to the Chief Minister for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, free of charge health services for the employees, raising the number of earned leave of teachers up to 30 days, service rules of all departments, etc., several times. However, it is unfortunate that the Chief Minister never called us for talks on all such issues in the past two years. Following a decision taken at the extended executive committee meeting of the Parishad held on June 4 at Mangaldai, we set a deadline of one month for the government to solve all these issues through talks. The extended executive meeting authorized the steering committee of the Parishad to opt for agitation if the Government failed to take any measures to solve the problems by June 30. The steering committee of the Parishad had its meeting on Saturday and unanimously decided to resort to agitation. Following a verbal assurance from the Chief Minister, the summer vacation of schools and the rainy season, etc., compelled us to resort to agitation after the annual conference of the Parishad slated for August 25, 26, and 27 in Guwahati."
