GUWHATI: The Commissioner of Police, Guwahati Diganta Barah, pledged to solve the pending murder cases.
Briefing the media on Friday, the Police Commissioner said that a case (219/2022 US 395 IPC) was filed where Ajit Chetia (60), an Amtron employee, was found dead with a head injury. In the preliminary investigation, the police suspected it to be a case of looting. One Manjur Ali was arrested on suspicion in Bangalore, but no evidence was found against him.
In order to review the case, a special team from the Crime Branch was formed. The police detained him thereafter, and he confessed his crime.
On February 25, Saidur Rahman (Gela) (23), from Kharupetia, was arrested in Bangalore. Other three of his associates have been arrested. Surat Zamal, Kalu (40), was arrested by Fatasil Ambari. Abdul Rasid (19) was arrested in Barpeta. Rafiqul Islam (Genda) is presently in the central jail. He hails from Baghbor. Abdul and Rafiqul are brothers. Dilwar Khan is a jewellery shop owner. Their main motive was looting.
A gold chain and a bangle were recovered from Kalu's wife.
