GUWAHATI: Commemorating World Pneumonia Day, the SAANS (Social Awareness and Actions to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully) initiative was flagged off for the Kamrup (M) District along with the rest of the state. The initiative was flagged off by Dr. M.S. Lakshmi Priya, Mission Director, NHM Assam, at an event at the Satgaon Urban Dispensary.
During the event, it was highlighted that pneumonia is a very serious problem and remains the main cause of death of children younger than five years in the country. This initiative to spread awareness will continue until February 29, 2024, and ASHA workers will go from door to door to spread awareness about pneumonia under this initiative. Apart from the mission director of NHM Assam, the Additional Chief Health and Family Welfare Officer, the District Immunisation Officer, and several other officials and personnel of the health and family welfare department attended the event.
