CHENNAI: In a weird occurrence, a man attempting to drive the 'bad spirits' out of his acquaintance's brand-new home by sacrificing a hen instead became the victim, while the hen survived.
The victim was Rajendiran, a 70-year-old day labourer who worked in masonry. He decided to carry out the rituals during the house-warming party to "fend off evil."
The man was killed in a freak accident in Pallavaram as he attempted to climb the recently built house with a hen that was intended to be sacrificed to "fend off bad spirits."
T. Lokesh, 48, had built a three-story flat in Pozhichalur, Pallavaram, and was planning the house-warming celebration for Friday.
Reportedly, a priest asked him to provide a hen as a sacrifice. Lokesh requested that Rajendran bring the chicken for the sacrifice. Rajendiran, 70, was invited to carry out the rituals. However, there was something else written on the person's fate who went to sacrifice the hen.
On Thursday, at about 4.30 a.m., Rajendiran and the hen arrived at the residence. He entered the lift-designated area after climbing the building alone with the hen.
A police officer stated, "When Lokesh instructed Rajendran to sacrifice the chicken on Thursday at 4.30 am, Rajendran arrived at that time. He then used the building's single elevator to get to the top floor. A short while later, Rajendran exited the open elevator and fell to the ground. He was rushed to the hospital after the incident, where he was pronounced dead. " The hen that perched on his body lived.
Additionally, the officer claimed that Lokesh had designated a room for the elevator and left it unlocked.
The deceased was brought to the Chromepet Government Hospital for a postmortem after the Shankar Nagar police filed a case and sent the body there.
Such rituals are frequently performed, according to the police officer, when 80% of a house has been completed.
