KAMTAPUR STATE Demand

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, April 27: The All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) today lashed out at BJP led Central as well as State government for not taking steps for creation of separate Kamtapur state.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, AKRSU president Pradip Rai said that even though the BJP, which is now in power both at the state and the centre as well, had assured to solve the problems of Koach Rajbongshi community before Lok Sabha as well as Assembly elections, has now taken complete u-turn and indulged in sabotaging the community.

Rai also termed the tripartite talk held between AKRSU, State government and the Centre over the longstanding demand of separate Kamtapur state in New Delhi on April 24, a drama.

He said that the meeting held at the conference hall of MHA in New Delhi failed to arrive at a consensus.

“Instead of addressing the problems of the Koach Rajbongshi community, the Government has rejected the separate Kamatapur State demand. We are shocked at the attitude of Central as well as State governments towards our demands,” Rai said.

He said that by stating that the government has no plan to create new State in the country, the Centre has apparently rejected our longstanding demand.

Opposing creation of separate Bodoland state, Rai exhorted the Centre to avoid such move for creating separate State for the Bodos.

He further demanded the Centre to grant ST status to the community and table the Bill in this regard in the next session of the Parliament.

Speaking to the reporters, the president of Koch Rajbongshi Jatiya Mahasabha president (in-charge) Biswajit Rai said that the Koch Rajbongshis are not safe at BTAD.

“We are not safe in BTAD so we have sought separate Kamtapur state,” he said.

He said that a large number of youths from Dhubri district have joined KLO but government has not taken any steps to bring them to the main stream.

“If government wants, we are ready to mediate for bring them to negotiation table,” Rai added.
