GUWAHATI, July 25: The tiol Health Mission, Assam has come up with a clarification that the Assam Arogya Nidhi Scheme is not in ‘coma’. It can be recalled that ‘The Sentinel’ on July 20 published a detailed report on the scheme’s failure in the State. Clarifying their stand, the Officer on Special Duty to NHM, Assam said that the scheme is funded by the State government and the Centre contributes up to 50% of the contribution made by the State government towards the State fund. He added, “From 2011-12 fincial year up to 2014-15 fincial year, the State government has released an amount of Rs 8 crore for implementation of Assam Arogya Nidhi and the Centre has released only Rs 1.5 crore.” He also said that the matter has been communicated to the Centre for release of its contribution of Rs 2 crore which has not yet been released. Stating that till now 1,029 individuals have been benefited from the scheme, he said that efforts are on to cover more population.
