Around 200 tonnes of local fish unloaded at Uzan Bazar

GUWAHATI, Jan 13: As much as 150-200  tonnes of local fish from Barpeta, Sipajhar, Hajo, Morigaon, gaon, etc., areas were unloaded at Uzan Bazar Fish Market in the city tonight. The special Magh Bihu Fish Market at the Bazar was opened ceremonially by local MLA Robin Bordoloi today.   

Chital, ari, bhokua, rohu, barali and other fish species were seen at the market. The wholesale price of chital ranges from Rs 450-500 a kg, Rs 400-450 a kg for bhokua, Rs 350-400 a kg for rohu, Rs 400-450 a kg for ari and Rs 350-400 a kg for barali.

This apart, from Andhra Pradesh, UP and Bihar a huge quantity of rohu, bhokua and chital arrived in the city. Such fish cost less than their local counterparts. Despite costing dearly, people want to have local fish during the Bihu.
