State BJP celebrates Vajpayee’s birthday as good governce day

GUWAHATI, Dec 25: To have taken charge as State BJP president today, former Assam Assembly Speaker Ranjit Dass is going to chair his first party meeting as president tomorrow. He is going to chair the special organizatiol meeting of the party at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in the city on December 26.

Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, Union Home Minister Rajth Singh, party general secretary Rammadhab, party’s state in-charge Mahendra Singh and other senior leaders of the party will be present at the meeting.

Three state BJP spokespersons – Rupam Goswami, Subhas Dutta and Aparijita Bhuyan – said in a statement today that this is the biggest-ever organizatiol meeting of the party after the BJP coming to power in Assam. “The meeting will be held in three sittings – one at the semil hall of the Kalakshetra among the party’s state office-bearers, presidents of various morchas, spokespersons, district presidents, State ministers, MPs and former MPs, tiol party members, and others. The second meeting will be held at Sri Sri Madhabdev Auditorium among 309 mandal presidents of the party and party MLAs. The third meeting will be at Sri Sri Sankardeva Auditorium. Around 540 office-bearers of the party will take part at the meeting. These three meetings will be followed by the main session at Sri Sri Sankaradeva Auditorium,” the three party spokespersons said.

According to party sources, the meeting is aimed at bringing about awareness among the public on cashless transaction, tackling the situation arising out of the demonetization, and to prepare itself for the panchayat poll slated to be held in the State in 2017.

Meanwhile, along with rest of the county the party in the State today celebrated the 92nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today as the Good Governce Day. The Guwahati District Committee of the party went to B Barooah Cancer Hospital and the North East Cancer Institute in the city and distributed fruits among patients after a tree planting programme on the occasion.
