Blood bank racketeers a mece at GMCH

GUWAHATI, April 28: Middlemen or racketeers of blood bank at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital are now a mece for the hospital, its administration and the patients in particular. A recent incident, where a person was duped by a middleman in the me of providing blood has once against exposed the loopholes in the GMCH.

As per the information, one Pur Hazarika a guardian of a patient who was in urgent need of blood on April 25 met one yan Kalita (25) near the GMCH blood bank. Kalita who spotted Hazarika finding it difficult to get blood approached him and assured to arrange it on a payment of Rs 2250. However, soon after taking the money, yan Kalita was to be found no where.

Luckily Pur Hazarika, on Wednesday, spotted yan Kalita near the GMCH blood bank and got of hold of him. Hazarika soon raised an alarm and handed him over to an on duty home guard who later produced him in front of the GMCH authority. Kalita, admitted taking the money and confessed that he handed over the money to one Rahul Boro.

He moreover, admitted the me of another racketeer Pankaj Kalita (30), who happens to be a contractual employee of the GMCH diet. Pankaj Kalita was later trapped in by the authorities.

Upon the instructions of the GMCH authorities Pur Hazarika lodge a complaint at the Bhangagarh police station, who soon arrested the duo.

It has been learnt that yan Kalita is a resident of Arangmou in lbari district whereas Pankaj Kalita is a resident of Jiakur in Kamrup. Interestingly, no one is aware of the whereabouts or address of Rahul Boro, who is suspected to be the kingpin.

Meanwhile, terming the incident as unfortute, administrative officer (security) Col BC Das (Retd.) said, “No one who is involved in this racket will be spared. We will soon b all the racketeers. However, we would like to stress on the need of awareness. People always search for the easy way, for which they often land into the trap of the wicked. If anyone faces any problem, they should approach the administration, but most of the time, it has been observed that they don’t approach the administration.” On the other hand, GMCH superintendent Dr BK Bezbaruah said, “We are taking all measures to control the mece of these racketeers. The security has been beefed up and the number of home guards has been increased to 78.”
