GUWAHATI, June 20: The Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad of Assam today demanded the Jajatiya Samannoyrokshi Samiti to call off its July 21 Assam bandh. The Samiti did call the bandh on July 21 in protest against the move to accord ST status to the Tai Ahoms. “The Bharatiya Jata Party, during the 2016 Assembly election and 2014 Lok Sabha election, promised to accord ST status to six ethic groups, including the Tai Ahoms. The Jajatiya Samannoyrokshi Samiti, however, is against the move of according ST status by the government and called Assam bandh as a mark of protest,” the TAYPA said.
