GUWAHATI, August 28: There has been change of guards at Dispur, so also at Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) with the new mayor and his deputy taking charge. However, there has been no change in the plight of Saraswati Path at Panbazar in Guwahati. For the people of the area and other users of the road, it continues to remain a perennial problem.

Saraswati Path is the one that links MN Road and ARB Road in the Panbazar area in the city. The bitumen and stones, which were used while blacktopping the road, have already given in, spreading stones all over the road that is dappled with craters here and there. Every spell of rain leaves its impact on the plight of the road. Driving on the road is fraught with accidents. The draige system on either side of the road is no better either.

The road lies in East Guwahati LAC where Captain Robin Bordoloi was the MLA in the last term of the Congress Government at Dispur. The term of Captain Bordoloi, according to the people of the LAC, was quite barren in so far as the development of the LAC is concerned.

Now BJP leader Siddhartha Bhattacharjee has made it to Dispur from East Guwahati LAC. Developmental works piled up for years due to the non-performance of his predecessor have made his task elephantine. One needs to gird up ones loins to get such an elephantine job done so as to give the city residents a respite. Is Bhattacharjee ready to gird up his loins?
