Six students on toppers list, Arts students fail to make it to top 10

GUWAHATI, June 2: Cotton College, the premier institute of the Northeast, shines once again today with as many as six students of the college clinching positions among the top 10 rank holders in the Higher Secondary Science examition, results of which were declared on Thursday.  Bhargob Kakoty of the college secured 4th position scoring 483 marks while Anirban Dey bagged 6th position securing 481 marks.  Abhigyan Goswami and Subhasish Kar, who scored 476 each, jointly obtained 8th spot while Antarip Kr Sarma and Neeraj Das jointly secured 10th position in the merit list scoring 474 marks. 

4th rank holders Bhargob, who resides at Datalpara area of the city, will pursue BSC with Statistics honours in Cotton College. Bhargob, son of Dhiren Kakoty and Tagar Kakoty, wants to be a teacher in future.  A 4th rank holder in HSLC examition from Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Diphu, Bhargob thoroughly studied text books and he did not take private tuitions. He wants the new government in the states to fulfill the promises made the promises made before the polls.

“I want the new government will work for the development of education sectors in the state,” he said.

Anirban, who bagged 6th position, said that he never thought that he will be in the top ten merit list.

“I tried to clear my concepts during classes. There was no specific time for study,” Anirban said.  He has appeared for engineering entrance examition and wants to be an engineer in future.

Unlike Anirban, 8th  rank holder Subhashish Kar too , did not expect that he would get position in the top ten merit list.  Subhashish has a techie dream and he has already appeared for engineering entrance examition.

Abhigyan, who secured 8th position jointly with Subhashish, wants to become a physicist in future. He would try to get admitted at IISER to make his dream come true.  

Taking about his success he said that concentrating in classes is very important.

Antarip, who bagged 10th rank, will study at Cotton College with honours in Chemistry. In HSLC examition, Antarip secured 6th position after reexamition of his papers.

Neeraj, another 10th rank holder, wants to become an engineer. Disturbed with the incidents like paper leak, Neeraj wants the government to be careful so that such incidents don’t recur in future.

“Strict action should be taken against those, who are responsible for such acts,” he said.

Interestingly, no students in the arts stream of Cotton College could make it to the top 10.  In arts stream, 111 students secured star, 146 achieved first division, 12 placed in second division and one student got third division. 

As many as 369 students obtained star, 478 secured first division, seven stood in second division and only one student placed in third division in the science stream of the college.

Six students from the college—Anweha Saha in Biology (100), Anirban Dey and Palashjyoti Kalita in Physics (98) and Parashar Mishra, Bhav Deka and Bhagyashree Das in History (98) obtained highest in the merit list.
