GUWAHATI, Oct 9: The fish market at Uzan Bazar and the busy road to Raj Bhavan nearby in Guwahati make strange bedfellows! Frequent plying of VVIP cars on the road and the almost continuous traffic srls seen there while loading and unloading of fish at the market place give the local people double trouble.
The messy situation there has prompted Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commission M Angamuthu to limit the act of loading and unloading of fish at the market at certain period of the day under certain conditiolities. In a notice issued today, the Deputy Commission has set some conditions that not more than 10 fish-carrying vehicles will be allowed to load or unload at the market, and the span of time for loading and unloading of fish is between 12 noon to 3 pm.
The Deputy Commission has made it clear that the act of loading and unloading of fish at the market should be done in a disciplined way, without causing any problems for the local people; instant disposal of garbage that comes out during the act of loading and unloading of fish; keeping the fish market clean and staying away from washing fish-carrying vehicles on roads.
The Deputy Commission has further said that the onus of monitoring the adherence to these practices lies with the Scheduled Caste Unemployed Fish Traders' Association. In the event of violation of this order by any of the parties concerned, this notification will be reviewed.
The Uzan Bazar fish market is famous for local fish.
