Dispur gears up to provide non-gear bikes to college girls

GUWAHATI, Dec 11: The BJP-led government at Dispur has geared up to keep the party’s poll promise of providing non-gear bikes, commonly called Scooty,  to girl students  qualifying HS examition, 2017 and going to colleges far off from their residences.
 In the last Assembly election in the State, the BJP did promise that in event of the party coming to power at Dispur the government would provide non-gear two-wheelers to top 1,000 girl students whose residences are more than 15 km from colleges they attend. The Department of Higher Education selected 803 girl students falling in this category. The mes of the girl students have already been published in the department’s website. The department has asked the students to express their choice of delivery point for non-gear two-wheelers before December 15 to the address given in the email. Sixteen dealers in the State have been given the contract for the delivery of non-gear bikes to girl students. The beneficiary students will have to produce their age proofs, address proofs and download the registration and insurance formats available in the department’s website to be delivered to the delivery point of their choice.
