Founder AASAA president Lakra no more

GUWAHATI, July 14: The founder president of the All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA), Justin Lakra passed away at GNRC Hospital, Guwahati this morning. He was 45.

Lakra had been suffering from multi-organ disorder for the past six months during which he had treatment in AIIMS, New Delhi. He had been under treatment in the GNRC in the city for the past two months. His funeral will be conducted tomorrow.

Lakra founded the AASAA on July 2, 1996 after the Bodo-Adivasi ethnic violence. His writ ran in among the Adivasis from Dhubri in lower Assam to Sadiya in Tinsukia in upper Assam till he retired in 2008 as AASAA president.

Lakra was born on October 2, 1970 at Soraibil village in  Gossaigaon subdivision under Kokrajhar district. He completed his graduation from Sankardev College, Shillong.

Meanwhile, the AASAA today condoled the death of Lakra. AASAA president Raphael Kujur and general secretary Justin Lakra said that the death of Lakra is an irreparable loss to society. The AASAA will fly its flag half-mast in all AASAA office across the state for seven days with lighting of lamps for the eterl peace of the departed soul.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi mourned the passing away of Lakra. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister termed the demise of the leader as a great loss to society. 'The passing away of the student leader has created a void which would be hard to fill," he said.

The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for eterl peace of the departed soul.
